Actor Brad Pitt confessed that he no longer considers himself agnostic or an atheist in a GQ interview. The 55-year-old “Ad Astra” actor now says that he sees his falling away from faith in his earlier years as youthful rebellion.

Brad Pitt Discusses Christianity
In the more than three decades Brad Pitt’s been in Hollywood, he’s considered himself an atheist or agnostic when it comes to God. However, the Oklahoma native recently said he’s finally embraced belief in God.

“Oh, man, I’ve gone through everything. Like, I cling to religion. I grew up with Christianity. Always questioned it, but it worked at times,” he said in a recent interview with GQ magazine.

Forsaking His Christian Roots
Brad Pitt was raised by devout parents in the Southern Baptist Church. However, he said he found religion and Christianity “stifling.”

“When I got on my own, I completely left it and I called myself agnostic,” Pitt says now. “Tried a few spiritual things but didn’t feel right.”

Struggling with Christian Guilt
And over the years, also said he struggled with “Christian guilt” over the things he knew he should and shouldn’t do. Along the way, he says he alternated between considering himself an atheist or simply agnostic. But he says it never truly fit.

“Then I called myself an atheist for a while, just kind of being rebellious,” Pitt confessed. “I wasn’t really. But I kinda labeled myself that for a while,” he said. “It felt punk rock enough.”

Returning to God
But, as with every human being, God wasn’t done with Brad Pitt yet. And Pitt decided he wasn’t done with God, either.

“I found myself coming back around to just belief in — I hate to use the word spirituality,” he said, “but just a belief in that we’re all connected.”

According to a recent Pew Research study, about 19 percent of Americans who were raised Christian have fallen away from their faith.

Thankfully, what people think at certain stages of life isnt always set in stone.

And faith and religion can be those things that evolve over time. God made human beings with the ability to choose to seek him or not.

And often the people who have questioned their religion and God come back stronger and more convicted in their faith than if they hadn’t.

It just goes to show that no matter who you are or what you’ve done, God is always there waiting for us to seek him out.
