Pregnant firefighter rescues car crash victim then gives birth to healthy baby girl hours later

Megan Warfield didn’t let a “significant” car crash nor labor stop her from assisting someone who had become trapped in their vehicle as a result of the accident.

The 30-year-old Maryland firefighter recently spoke with Today about her harrowing act of bravery that took place roughly one week before her due date.

Warfield had just finished hosting a memorial golf tournament honoring her late father when she was involved in a car crash.

According to a Facebook post from the Bowleys Quarters Volunteer Fire Rescue and Marine, she was “just a week or so shy of her due date” at the time.

“Ignoring any chance she could be injured, Megan immediately exited her mangled vehicle and began providing care to a person trapped by their overturned car.”

The Maryland firefighter, who was already a mother of two, explained on Today that she initially exited her vehicle to direct traffic. Once she saw the overturned vehicle she rushed to the person’s aid.

“I started to climb in there with her, but then I was like, ‘What are you doing? You’re nine months pregnant,’” Warfield told Today. “I ended up holding onto her to keep her in place because I wasn’t sure of her injuries at the time.

Warfield, who had been on desk duty during her pregnancy, was focused on keeping the crash victim calm because “it was a pretty traumatic event.”

She waited by the woman’s side until first responders arrived and freed her. It was only then that Warfield decided she should also get checked out. The soon-to-be mother of three went to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore where she learned the accident had induced labor and knocked her baby into a sideways position.

“I don’t know how I did what I did because the cramping was so bad,” she said. “I must’ve just been running on adrenaline.”

After the chaotic scene which sent six people to the hospital, Warfield and her boyfriend, Joshua Daugherty a paramedic who happened to respond to the scene, welcomed a healthy baby girl named Charlotte less than 24 hours later.

The Bowleys Quarters Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department praised her efforts as a “true public servant” and congratulated Warfield on the birth of her third child.

“Congratulations Momma Megan, Job Well Done!”

I couldn’t have said it better! Megan, what you did is nothing short of heroic.

Please share to congratulate Megan and thank her.
