It’s a scene that you would expect to see in a horror movie, but it was all too real for Vincent Phillips.
On the night of July 17, his wife Tatanysha Hedman doused him in gasoline and set him on fire while he was sleeping.
The reason? She had recently discovered that her husband had been molesting her own 7-year-old daughter from a previous relationship – and sought revenge on the man living in Washington state.
Phillips awoke to his body on fire. He was in a rage, so he left home and got into the car, and drove to a nearby convenience store. While he was still burning from the flames his 40-year-old wife set, he screamed at the people in the store to help him while he was still alive.
“I’m on fire!” Phillips reportedly screamed. “Help me!”
Eventually, emergency rescue professionals arrived at the scene. They were able to extract only four words from Phillips before he passed out and went unconscious. “My wife did it.”
Phillips was rushed to the Harborview Medical Center, where he was treated for the burn injuries he received at the hands of his angry wife.
Police responded to the home where Phillips was living with his 40-year-old wife, Hedman. Hedman told the responding officers that she set her husband on fire as an act of revenge because he had molested her seven-year-old daughter, who is Phillips’s stepdaughter, not his biological daughter.
She set her husband on fire while he slept at their Renton, Washington apartment on July 17.
Authorities were baffled by the crime because it looked like two people had done something wrong.
Hedman stood by her decision to set her husband on fire and told responding law enforcement that she set her husband on fire because shooting him would have been “too nice” for the alleged child molester.
While Phillips recovered from the burns to his body, the police did some investigating and confirmed that there was evidence to suggest that Phillips had molested the seven-year-old girl.
The police did not wait to slam Phillips with charges related to his evil deeds concerning the underage girl.
Phillips, 52, was charged with first-degree child molestation, which is exactly what a child molester like him deserves.
Although Hedman might have had a good reason to set her husband on fire, the law had no choice but to punish her for what she did. She was held on a massive $500,000 bond after she was charged with arson and assault for what she did to Phillips.
The case became a hot topic of discussion on social media as people weighed in about how Hedman got revenge on her husband after she learned that he had inappropriately touched her seven-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.
Any mother would want to do something as violent as Hedman did if they learned that someone had destroyed their child’s innocence in such a way.
